Abstract

The Ghana Technology University College Library (GTUCL), Accra – Campus, was the setting of the study. The study was conducted to determine the effective use of collection development policies in Academic Libraries. The study adopted a case study design and used a qualitative method in its investigations. A self-designed interview schedule was used to solicit information from all the staff in GTUCL—two (2) professional and three (3) para-professional librarians. Data collected was analysed using content analysis. The interviews were audio -taped and then transcribed based on the major themes. The findings showed that the GTUCL has a collection development policy; however, the policy has not been reviewed since it was written nine (9) years ago. Recommendations to review the policy included the use of the policy in all selection processes as well as the involvement of all library staff and stakeholders in selection activities.
